I love the price in comparison to the Montana and it looks like it belongs on the bike, almost like it's a factory unit. The Montana on the other hand is clunky, heavy and bloated. It has the durability and ruggedness one would expect from an outdoor unit but it costs nearly twice as much and simply isn't all that appealing on the bike. Is the Zumo XT capable of this type of use day in and day out or will I long for the ruggedness and build quality of the Montana? I would totally get the zumo. The street maps and turn buy turn nav capability built in make it a clear winner. For off road both can do point to point nav and accept tracks and in theory the can do automatic routing with optional street maps which just add to the cost which is already higher to start with.
I don't believe the can do rerouting and traffic like the Zumo can right out of the box. Away you go but not without worrying about the mount dropping your GPS onto the pavement—it seems finicky and chintzy at first. Wet, soggy days are no problem for the Zumo XT. Neither are suspiciously unmarked public roadways. On the box, Garmin says the Zumo XT is ready to use—turn it on, and go.
